During my blog stroll today I was looking for kitchen ideas...and before I knew it I found this page. The Benson's have really inspired me to look even further into alternative products, recycled materials, and to try to keep our houses original feeling. "Heidi and Matthew Benson, with baby Daisy Marlena, enhance their kitchen's role as a space for living and cooking with comfortable seating next to a wood-burning stove. The Benson's opened up the once-cramped room by incorporating freestanding furnishings instead of built-in cabinets. To store pots and pans, Matthew hung a tack rack, culled from an old carriage house, using leather straps." I love the organic feel that this kitchen gives off. Here are few pictures from the link

"Found in a friend’s basement a 10-foot-tall hutch was in pieces until Matthew rebuilt it, adding a cornice headpiece and a bead-board back, which he painted to a custom-mixed soft green. Its unusual height makes it a perfect proportion for the room’s lofty ceiling heights."

Bring in the new: To create a kitchen that looks like it has evolved over time, the Benson's mixed new items with antiques.

The couple chose a sleek new refrigerator for practical reasons, including the lower deep freezer that slides out, making it easy to see everything in the drawer. Placing a small antique cupboard on top helps integrate this modern appliance into the kitchen.
